| The school district
serving ShadowGlen is growing, which translates into
big benefits for children. The student teacher ratio
is 14-to-one, far below the state average. The smaller
schools also permit more students to get involved in
after school programs, from football, baseball, and
soccer to theater, debate and band because there are
simply more opportunities for participation.
In addition, this district is well
on its way to achieving extraordinary success. Aptly
coined as the “Journey to Exemplary” by
Manor ISD Superintendent, Dr. Mark Diaz, this district
employs a qualified and diverse staff, and keeps parents
and the community actively involved. This district aims
for broad success and continued progress for every child
by offering free Pre-K to any student, regardless of
income. It also provides free breakfast to any student,
and free transportation for students, regardless of
address.
A rigorous curriculum further fuels
the “Journey to Exemplary.” This district
claims more dual-credit classes for high school students;
periodic assessments for immediate feedback; and transition
camps for all students graduating from elementary to
middle school, and from middle school to high school.
Middle school students can take high school courses,
and Spanish speaking 8th graders are allowed to take
an Advanced Placement (AP) class for college credit.
A very healthy budget is another Manor
ISD hallmark, due to the tax base produced by the high
tech companies neighboring ShadowGlen. Such rich resources
along with skillful budgeting allow the district to
add new facilities, to operate schools at a very high
standard and to spend well above the state average on
instruction for each student.
Major technology companies influence
the school district in another way. Though its affiliation
with the World Semiconductor Council the district is
a leader in implementing the latest technology in the
schools. Technologically, the Manor ISD is on par with
any college campus in Central Texas.
